A lot of people want “police reform,” but they argue about the loudest moments and ignore the everyday mechanics that actually decide whether a community feels safe or targeted. We sit down with Sean Lozano, a Florida cop turned political operative and now a candidate for lieutenant governor, to talk about what he saw on the street and what he thinks has to change in the system behind it. He’s blunt about why many people become cops, why “good intentions” collapse without training, and why the public’s frustration often comes from small constitutional violations that stack up over time.

We get specific about law enforcement accountability: stopping bad behavior in the moment, challenging supervisors who don’t understand basic legal standards, and ending the culture where agencies “audit themselves” and declare everything fine. We also dig into budgets and priorities, from expired vests and thin training schedules to shiny tech purchases that don’t move the needle. Then we widen the lens to the courts, because street work means less when prosecutors plead serious cases down with no explanation. If discretion is real, the public should be able to see how it’s used.

The second half turns practical with a body-cam style breakdown of a narcotics detention and foot chase, including what went right, what should be done differently, and why command presence is not the same thing as pointless aggression. We close with a hard conversation about license plate readers and Flock-style systems, surveillance creep, vendor access to data, and what real guardrails and criminal penalties for misuse should look like.
